The latest album by Melody Gardot, “The Absence”, was released May 28, 2012. The Absence is a magic album with inspirations from the places Melody visited during her one-year of wandering around the world: Morocco, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, …

The opening of “Mira” will directly get you to Brazil, with its Samba rythms. Travel to Lisboa with the eponym song, and keep enjoying latin sounds throughout the album.

While the album keeps the essence of Melody Gardot, it is quite different from her previous ones, and especially the very successful “My One and Only Thrill”. Some of the fans might feel a bit frustrated, but I think it is really a chance to discover a new, yet similar Melody.

    Melody Gardot was born on feb. 2, 1985 in New Jersey.
    She is a singer, songwriter and musician (guitar and piano).
    In November 2003, Melody was hit by a car whose driver had ignored a traffic light. This accident got her sticked to her hospital bed for a full year, and she had to go through several therapies and relearn such simple tasks as brushing her teeth. One of the consequences she is still having is a hypersensitivity to light, which forces her to wear sunglasses at all times.
    Music accompanied Melody since her childhood. She took her first music lessons at the age of nine. She started playing in bars at the age of 16. While she initially played piano, she learned guitar during her stay at the hospital.
    She wrote her first songs and made them available for downloads in 2005 and her first album (Worrisome Heart) was relased in february 2008.
